Hugo Chavez Recovering After Surgery In Cuba

CARACAS, Venezuela -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says he is quickly recovering after undergoing surgery in Cuba for a pelvic abscess.

Chavez says the operation was a success and has not slowed him down. During a telephone interview broadcast Sunday by the Caracas-based Telesur television network, Chavez said he is diligently attending to day-to-day duties while he closely follows events in Venezuela.

He said domestic problems that have captured his attention include the high costs of private health care and recurring power outages in several regions.

Chavez is recovering in Cuba, where he underwent last week's surgery.

A pelvic abscess is an accumulation of pus that can have various causes, including infection or complications from surgery.
